Continuing the search

A key strength of this approach is that each minute of survey effort strengthens the predictive model. Beyond inferring local extinction probabilities, the framework uses the full posterior distribution to predict target occupancy in each habitat patch or cell in the model. Thus, each new survey narrows uncertainty, sharpens extinction probabilities, and results in a predictive heatmap to guide future search efforts.
