Through the combined efforts of 8154 individuals, the Saanich naturalist community has now documented a total of 1397 vascular plant species. Based on search efforts over the last decade, 100 percent of the historically reported plant diversity has been confirmed and 367 new species reports added to the list. Community members have now documented 59 percent of the plant diversity known to the region on iNaturalist.
TODO: We don’t have an iNaturalist Saanich project, can’t add this as a “place” in iNat because it is too big, but could perhaps cobble one together out of Central Saanich, Coastal Saanich and Saanich proper etc.
You can contribute to this growing record of the regional plant diversity by submitting your observations to the Atl’ka7tsem Howe Sound Biosphere Region iNaturalist project. Here, you can browse photos of some of the most commonly documented plants, as well as recent observations and top observers across the region, based on iNaturalist data.
